If it’s still a little chilly in the mornings where you live, I’m talking about you #btv ; adding a long comfy cotton sweater to a pop of color cotton cropped pants will do the trick. #color #spring

It’s been a while

I apologize for the delay in my blog updating, but I promise I have some things to discuss today.

First of all, I don’t care who you are. You wear the size you’re meant to wear. Whether that’s a small, medium, or large. You wear what you’re supposed to wear. There is no “sizing down,” because you feel that you want a shirt to be tighter. No, it looks trashy, and frankly, it’s embarrassing to anyone who has ever helped dressed you! If making yourself feel sexy is showing all your indents and indiscretions, fine, that’s your prerogative. But, do not, question why someone in the profession is bringing you the next size up. Clearly, you need it!

As a girl who has had her ups and downs with weight, including but not limited to her bust, waist, and hips, I understand how sizes make women feel.  There are things called scissors and they work magic when you want to forget what size you’re wearing. CUT OUT THE TAG!   For example, going through puberty, I grew from a 32B chest to now a 36D cup. There is nothing wrong with this, but clearly, I am not going to go buy an XS or S sized shirt when it will pull across my chest! This does not mean I am fat, this means that my chest will be restricted and therefore will ruin the material of the shirt. Think about it: pulling something across something that is too tight, it will rip! When you buy clothes, most people buy them to last for more than a few times of wearing them. If you buy too small, they will rip and ruin!

Yesterday, I met a wonderful woman, who was so sweet; but so out of her element.  She wanted to buy a whole new outfit to wear to court. She claimed to be a lawyer in a small Vermont town and wanted something that represented her style.  I placed her in the Sloan Slim Ankle pants from Banana Republic, which you can see examples of through pictures on my blog.  They’re a mix of rayon and cotton. They have a wonderful stretch to them that you actually should size down because they stretch so much. (Plus they’re dry clean only, so think about how often you will be wearing these before having them cleaned). She wanted to buy the equestrian brown color, which is a dark brown color in her “regular,” size.  In addition to these pants, she wanted to wear the equestrian blazer, which is a dark brown, greenish color with brown elbow patches that match the brown of the Sloan’s this customer was trying on.  The outfit, while cute together with a white top underneath, is not something I would be comfortable sending someone home with to use for a Court appearance.  After thinking of what I could put this customer in, to keep her with the Sloan slim ankle pants that she loved, I ended up getting her a grey and navy blazer, that was still casual enough, but classy that she wouldn’t look ridiculous in Court.  This customer did not want to try on the next size up, but rather the size down from what she was wearing.  The jacket was pulling in the back, the shirt was too tight across her bust, and her pants looked like they were painted on her legs.

As I’ve said before in the past, I am a firm believer in that anyone can wear anything and make it their own.  I still stand by that belief, but when you’re going to a conservative function, wearing things that are too tight for you, are HIGHLY inappropriate.

For the sake of everyone around you who has to see you in these clothes, keep in mind that you should wear the sizes THAT FIT YOU.
